  COPPUL Scholarly Communications Working Group

The COPPUL Scholarly Communications Working Group is charged with conducting research into the areas of open access and scholarly communications and making recommendations to the COPPUL Board of Directors for supporting these activities. Terms of Reference for this Working Group were approved in September 2012 by the COPPUL Board of Directors.

In 2011, the SCWG compiled the COPPUL Guide on Archived Scholarly Communications Lectures. The SCWG continues to add resources to this guide and will develop it into a scholarly communications toolkit that is uniquely relevant to COPPUL libraries. In addition to creating this toolkit, the SCWG will engage scholarly communication practitioners at COPPUL institutions by establishing a community of practice and developing collaborative opportunities for COPPUL in the 2012 International Open Access Week events. The SCWG is also in the process of designing a workshop for COPPUL member institutions that addresses emerging, relevant trends, such as developments in Canadian copyright law.

Detailed information about SCWG activities in the 2012-2013 fiscal year can be found in the Recommended Activities for COPPUL Scholarly Communications Working Group 2012-2013 memo (June 2012).

An article Celebrating International Open Access Week the COPPUL Scholarly Communication Task Group Way, was written by SCWG members Michael Hohner, Leah Vanderjagt and Joy Kirchner about the group's celebration of Open Access Week 2011 and published in Partnership (vol. 6, no. 2).
