The COPPUL Private LOCKSS Network is a program that utilizes the LOCKSS digital preservation system as a means to archive collections of local interest to members of COPPUL that are not being preserved through any other means. Digital materials such as small university press publications, open access journals, born digital government publications, and other electronic journal collections that are at risk of being lost are being preserved as part of the program. As collections are put forward by participating institutions,
all
members will preserve them via the private network, in order to have a
distributed method of preservation for collections that are of
importance to the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan
and Manitoba. Participating Institutions include:

What is LOCKSS?LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), based at Stanford University Libraries, is an international community initiative that provides libraries with digital preservation tools and support so that they can easily and inexpensively collect and preserve their own copies of authorized e-content. LOCKSS provides libraries with the open-source software and support to preserve web-published materials. The ACM award-winning LOCKSS technology is an open source, peer-to-peer, decentralized digital preservation infrastructure. LOCKSS preserves all formats and genres of web-published content. The intellectual content, which includes the historical context (the look and feel), is preserved. LOCKSS is OAIS-compliant; the software migrates content forward in time; and the bits and bytes are continually audited and repaired. More about LOCKSS.
